The GERD has received 64,500 Canadian dollars

The British Columbia branch of the Alliance for GERD in Canada hosted a virtual fund-raising event where the money was raised. GERD bonds totaling 37,000 Canadian dollars will be purchased by the Diaspora in addition to the 37,000 Canadian dollars that were raised at the event.

In a weekend webinar fundraising meeting, members of the Ethiopian Diaspora in Vancouver, Canada, donated 64,500 Canadian dollars to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

The British Columbia branch of the Alliance for GERD in Canada hosted a virtual fund-raising event where the money was raised. 

GERD bonds totaling 37,000 Canadian dollars will be purchased by the Diaspora in addition to the 37,000 Canadian dollars that were raised at the event.

Director of the Ethiopian Diaspora Agency Selamawit Dawit noted that Ethiopians in Canada had contributed admirably to funding the dam during its construction. She urged the Diaspora to continue to offer their assistance, noting that coordinated efforts are being made to finish building the dam.On her part, Nassise Chali, the Ethiopian ambassador to Canada, praised the Diaspora's support for the GERD and emphasized the need of combining efforts from Ethiopians living at home and abroad to meet the country's current issues.

The envoy stated that sponsoring the dam "has several benefits for Ethiopia and is a duty and a national obligation," adding that Ethiopia has experienced hardships and needs the diaspora to play a patriot role to overcome those issues. While this was going on, Ethiopians living in Italy protested against outside pressure and intervention on their country. They also showed their support for the Ethiopian government's stance against such pressure.The protesters also denounced a plot by Egypt and Sudan against Ethiopia in connection with border conflicts and GERD negotiations.
